4 Reasons Why Snowbirds Love Texas

Each year when the weather starts to cool, there is a migration wave of RVers from colder regions up north to warmer climates. Affectionately called Snowbirds, these RVers are often retirees, but now with remote working becoming commonplace, anyone can live the RV lifestyle and head for warmer environs when their main home gets too chilly.

Many snowbirds become “Winter Texans” and head for the Lone Star State. Here are a few reasons why.

Winter Texans Enjoy a Sense of Community

Here at San Marcos River Resort, winter RV camping is our specialty. We’ve developed a cozy community where our residents have become like family, and who form lasting friendships with the other guests. Many come back year after year to see friends old and new, and some even take day trips together, exploring all the area has to offer. Texas is known for being a very friendly state; indeed, we have some of the best folks around who welcome visitors with open arms.

Everywhere you go in Texas, the greeting smiles you encounter reflect the cultural heritage of our home. It is this community atmosphere fostering hospitality that brings snowbirds back to central Texas year after year. A place where strangers say ‘Good Morning’ to each other, strike up a conversation, then are no longer strangers.

Location, Location, Location

In addition to the friendliness of our residents and making visitors feel welcome, Central Texas offers unique aspects for seasonal residents. This area stands out as one of the best choices for snowbirds; a subtropical climate, wonderful wildlife and scenery, and tons of fun outdoor activities for young and old.

The mild climate allows majestic oaks, maple, and pecan trees to flourish, creating a lush atmosphere. When autumn comes, all those leaves really put on a show during fall foliage season around the last week of November. The vibrant hues of deep orange, reds, and yellows make the entire area come alive with color.

Unlike the elevated heat and humidity of Florida, the weather here in central Texas is milder in the winter months. We typically do not experience more than an inch of snow (if any!) throughout the entire season, and temperatures average between 50 to 70 degrees.

Affordability

Prices here are so reasonable compared with most other parts of the country. Not to mention, our gas prices are usually below the national average, and that’s important for the RV lifestyle! Central Texas is an ideal spot to hang your hat for the winter.

So Much to Do and Explore

Hiking in stunning scenery, especially around fall foliage time rather than in frost or snow, is a much better way to spend time outdoors. Snowbirds also enjoy great golfing and boating, knowing they can partake in those sorts of activities year-round in central Texas.

With the nearby cities of Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, great food, museums, and other cultural attractions are never far away. In addition, there are always special events, expos and entertainment that caters specifically to the snowbird crowd. Ask us for the latest.
